261446 : Porting a number from an account that has several landlines    Print   Bookmark   Download
Reviewed: 8/14/2009

If the account with your legacy phone service provider includes several landlines (i.e. several phone numbers), there are two possible scenarios:

  • The phone number you wish to transfer is the BTN (Billing Telephone Number). Porting a BTN will automatically cancel service on all other landlines (other phone numbers). If you wish to keep your other landlines, you need to switch the BTN to a different phone number.

  • The phone number you wish to transfer is not the BTN (Billing Telephone Number) of the account. Since it is a secondary number, there should be no problem porting the phone number.
